This statue of Unity is erected on the banks of river Narmada in the state of Gujarat, and you would be astonished to know that the height of this structure is two times the height of the famous Statue of Liberty. So, now our Statue of Unity forms a record of being the tallest skyscraping statue of the world. This feat will make the hearts of all the fellow Indians swell with pride and joy.
This 182-metre statue of Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel is truly a sight to behold that will be unveiled on the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel. This statue is also built near the Sardar Sarovar Dam in the tribal-dominated area of Narmada district which is near 200 kilometers from Ahmadabad.
Sardar Patel is also known by the name of ‘Iron Man’ of India and has contributed a lot to the unity and integrity of the country making his statue being aptly named as ‘Statue of Unity’. Also, once the statue gets unveiled, it will be one major tourist spot as the Chief Minister of Gujarat has promised world class facilities along with a tribal museum with garden and boating facilities.
The project for this statue was first announced in the year 2010 when the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the chief Minister of Gujarat. Also, the state government had set up a special purpose vehicle in order to construct this statue. Modi had laid the foundation stone in the October of 2013 and the famous engineering firm L&T was given the contract for the same.
